Machine Vision

GTRI develops machine vision systems that use acoustical, microwave, optical, and radiographic sensors and image processing to automate many visual-inspection tasks for manufactured goods. Our researchers are experts in high-speed systems, three-dimensional imaging and visualization techniques.

Food Processing / Agricultural Technologies

Our researchers develop innovative technologies that improve food processing efficiency and effectiveness in Georgia’s poultry industry and the food processing industry in general. GTRI engineers high-speed automation, robotics and quality inspection systems for the food industry.

Logistics

We develop performance-centered systems that deliver quality information to decision makers in all parts of the supply chain. These systems utilize integrated and remote sensors, information systems and wireless communications to ensure accurate and timely information.

Radio Frequency Identification

GTRI researchers developed a technology from radio-frequency identification tags that tracks the location and condition of high-value assets, ranging from pharmaceutical drugs to aircraft engines. Our radio frequency identification research focuses on authentication and identification technologies—from acoustics to optics—for commercial customers. Research targets pill-tracking accuracy and factory-parts tracking in assembly plants.

Accessibility / Assistive Technologies

GTRI helps improve product and technology accessibility for disabled persons. We make ordinary products like coffeemakers, golf clubs, photocopiers, cell phones and other devices usable by persons with disabilities. We also develop innovative technologies that provide a new level of accessibility to the visually and hearing impaired and those with impaired mobility.

Technology Insertion

We offer cost-effective, innovative and reliable engineering solutions to extend the lives of manufacturing systems. Resourceful insertion of technology alleviates obsolescence, increases reliability, lowers costs and improves performance.

Robotics

Our expertise in interactive and intelligent computing, control and mechanical engineering helps define the future role of robotics in society. Our research emphasizes personal and everyday robotics, as well as the future of automation.
